Representatives from Lough Neagh Fisherman’s Cooperative and the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) visited Brussels from 7th to 9th December to attend a range of meetings with officials fromthe European Commission, European Parliament and other key stakeholders.
A highly successful Lough Neagh Eels showcase event was hosted by the Brussels Office as part of the visit. Lough Neagh Eels have already been awarded PGI status by the EU and this was an excellent opportunity to present a wider selection of Northern Ireland’s finest produce at a European level.
Guests enjoyed sampling Lough Neagh eels and pollan, prepared using delicious recipes very kindly provided by Northern Irish chef Paula McIntyre. Thanks are also due to members of the Ulster Artisans group and other local producers who supplied an array of regional specialities including breads, oils, fudge, chocolates and drinks.
