Northern Ireland Office Hosts Successful European Week of Regions and Cities Event

In conjunction with the offical European Week of Regions and Cities – EU Open Days programme, ONIEB partnered with six other EU regions to host a workshop on moving ‘Towards a More Effective EU Regional Policy’ on Wednesday 11th October.

Nicolas Brookes, Director for Regional Policy at the Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions  moderated the debate, and Jan Mikołaj Dzięciołowski, from the Commissioner for Regional Policy’s Cabinet and Polish MEP Jan Olbrycht  gave keynote speeches.

Gina McIntyre, Chief Executive of SEUPB, spoke in detail about the impact of the EU PEACE and INTERREG programmes in Northern Ireland . Representatives from the other partner regions – Podlaskie (Poland), Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (France), Swietokrzyskie (Poland), Umbria (Italy), Varazdin County (Croatia) and Vojvodina (Serbia) – offered regional insight and experience, with further contributions from the audience provoking a lively debate.

The event was attended by 80 representatives from across Europe, who has a great opportunity to network with their counterparts in other regions and hear about  regional policy management in Northern Ireland.
