The UK Government has committed in Article 2 of the Windsor Framework to protect certain human rights and equality standards after Brexit in Northern Ireland, in recognition of their centrality in the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement. It requires ‘no diminution’ against certain EU standards and includes an enduring duty to ‘keep pace’ with the main EU equality directives. The three Commissions have been working to ensure that this important commitment is upheld. We would like to share our experience of this work and discuss ways in which continued engagement with the EU can support the implementation of the Article 2 commitment. This is the first event of its kind, and we hope it will lead to ongoing and fruitful discussions.
