Dear friends and colleagues,

We can’t believe this is our final Newsletter for the month of May, but here it is! It is great to see some relaxation of restrictions but you can still keep up with what’s happening in Northern Ireland whether you are near or far.

This week we bring you the Hidden Talents Art Exhibition by members of Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, Poetry Prompts inspired by the UNESCO Marble Arch Caves, 12 recipes from Women of the World, arts conversations with Declan McConaghy and Oh Yeah Music Centre’s Virtual Tour of NI.

Enjoy, and don’t forget to give us your feedback! @BrusselsNI.
Best Wishes,
Lynsey Moore, Director

Hidden Talents Art Exhibition

The Annual Exhibition for the Arts Care Spring Festival at Belfast City Hospital is accessible online this year. Hidden Talents showcases art works created by staff and volunteers throughout the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. This year’s theme is ‘Blossoming’ and it is a pleasure to support those who have supported us throughout the pandemic. You can view all the different pieces here and even purchase any you fall in love with!

Marble Arch Caves & Poetry Prompts

We are very lucky to have the UNESCO Global Geopark ‘Marble Arch Caves’ in County Fermanagh. If you haven’t been fortunate enough to visit yet, make sure to check out this brilliant video outlining the magnificence of the landmarks. Furthermore, for any poetry lovers out there, why not challenge yourself with these poetry prompts? All of which take inspiration from the Geopark!

Enjoy this selection of 12 delicious recipes collated from members of Women of the World, an intercultural women’s group from the South Belfast Roundtable. The recipes have been collected throughout 12 lifetimes, passed down through generations and serve as a reminder of people, places and childhood memories brought back to life through the whiff of a home-cooked meal.

In Conversation with Declan McConaghy

Newry-based former BBC broadcaster, Declan McConaghy, has created a new series of short films where he talks in-depth to creatives from Newry and the surrounding area who have made a contribution to theatre, music, dance and the performing arts in general. The latest conversation is with Newry born and Boston based dancer, director and choreographer, Sean Murphy. Sean’s story is incredible and his journey in dance and movement has taken him from working as a delivery boy, to the Newry stage and onto the stages of London, New York and Boston.

Virtual NI Music Tour 2021

Oh Yeah Music Centre present an online music tour to celebrate their 14th year in the industry. The centre opened its doors on 5 May 2007 and normally programmes a live music celebration, but due to the pandemic this will be the second year the doors have been closed on their anniversary. In its place, they have organised a Virtual Tour of NI with a series of specially recorded music performances celebrating some of NI’s venues and artists. View the full tour on their YouTube Channel.
