Dear Friends and Colleagues,

This week the team are delighted to share with you the latest online events and experiences from Northern Ireland.

We begin with a short film celebrating the ‘Distant Sky’ music festival which should have been held on Rathlin Island at the summer solstice. The film features artists and writers previously hosted in our Brussels office including Ciara O’Neill and Glenn Patterson. Our newsletter also includes an online archive from Museums Northern Ireland, which showcases some of the most famous ships built in Belfast, recipes from the fabulous Wee Buns Cookery School, a virtual tour of many of our most well-known landmarks and details on how you can enjoy the Celtronic 2020 Music Festival from the comfort of your own home.

We hope that you are all keeping well and enjoy this week’s newsletter. As always, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes,

Neal Gartland, Deputy Director

Celebrate Rathlin’s Distant Sky Festival

While this year’s Distant Sky Festival on Rathlin Island couldn’t take place, a short film has been produced with the islanders featuring local Northern Ireland musicians, Neil Martin, Reevah, Ciara O'Neill, Tour Alaska, and writer Glenn Patterson. The film, supported by Tourism NI and Tourism Ireland, shows the magnificent scenery of Rathlin Island, alongside beautiful music and spoken word.

In Service: Life after Belfast

The relationship between Belfast shipyard Harland & Wolff and White Star Line began in 1869 and lasted until 1932. During that time Harland & Wolff built over 70 ships for White Star Line and while Titanic is the most famous of these, many others have eventful histories. National Museums NI have collected some of these stories for you to discover on their website, with pictures of beautiful historical letters and other artefacts for illustration.
