In this week’s Newsletter we bring you highlights from Northern Ireland music, theatre, culture and history.

Tune into the Big Telly Theatre Company’s live interactive performance of Macbeth, available until Saturday. Then from Wednesday 21 October, immerse yourself in the wonderful programme presented by the City of Derry International Choir Festival. On Tuesdays and Thursdays you can discover the story of migration; while throughout the month of October you can take part in the many events celebrating Black History Month with the North West Migrants Forum.

MACBETH: Belfast International Arts Festival

As part of the Belfast International Arts Festival, Big Telly Theatre Company present an imaginative reboot of Shakespeare’s timeless Macbeth. The live interactive performance portrays the blood-soaked tale of murder, lust and power in a world where reality and illusion are hard to tell apart. The audience are privy to every dilemma and dark corner of this classic text and are left to their own devices as silent witnesses and invited guests. The live performances will be broadcast every night from the 14-17 October at 7pm with a 9:30pm viewing on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October. Black History Month with the North West Migrants Forum

To celebrate Black History Month, the North West Migrants Forum present a programme of events to celebrate the achievements and contributions of black people in Northern Ireland and around the world. The programme which runs throughout October features events including a conversation on ‘Blackness comes in different Shades and Cultures’; two Black History trivia quiz nights; a ‘Dialogue and Debate’ night focused on the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement; a ‘Black History Human Library’; as well as a ‘Black is Beautiful’ two day event celebrating black culture, heritage, fashion, hair, food, arts, craft, music and dance. City of Derry International Choir Festival

The city of Derry International Choir Festival has launched an exciting and diverse programme for this year’s festival which will be broadcast on the festival’s website, Facebook and YouTube. The programme includes workshops and exclusive concerts by guest artists Tenebrae and Ardú, a global virtual choir performance of Danny Boy and a local schools rendition of Amazing Grace. The Virtual Choral Trail will feature choirs from around the world in video performances of popular, jazz, gospel and sacred music. Viewers can watch festival footage from previous years in the DerryChoirFest Playback mini-series. Make sure to book your online tickets and tune in from 21-25 October.

Virtual Living History Programme

Ards and North Down Borough Council are running an eight-week ‘Virtual Living History’ programme that delves into migration to and from the island of Ireland, past and present. Virtual tours and speakers will guide participants through the programme and each online session will be followed by a discussion on how migration has affected our society today. The session will run every Tuesday (10am-12:30pm) and Thursday (6:30pm-9:00pm) until 3 December. To register, email goodrelations@ardsandnorthdown.gov.uk with your chosen day.
