Array Collective Shortlisted for Turner Prize

Belfast-based group of artists, Array Collective, has been shortlisted for this year’s Turner Prize. An exhibition of their work will be held from 29 September 2021 to 12 January 2022 as part of the UK City of Culture celebrations. Array Collective create collaborative actions in response to issues affecting Northern Ireland. They are commended for their way of fusing seriousness with humour and addressing contemporary issues using ancient folk imagery. Read more.

Northern Songs Series Two

NI Opera launched Northern Songs Series 2 with the first film shown on 13th May and the series will run every Thursday for 8 weeks. This series showcases Northern Ireland’s beautiful landscapes and landmarks with songs written and performed by composers and singers from the island of Ireland. This season’s opera singers are all either winners or finalists at the Glenarm Festival of Voice. Filmed by Causeway Pictures around Northern Ireland but with a particular focus for this series on counties Fermanagh, Armagh and Tyrone, this series will feature eight films and a behind-the-scenes project supported by Tourism Ireland.

Sports Inspires Podcast with Mary Peters

For the first episode of the Sports Inspires Podcast you can listen to Matthew Thompson and Stephen Watson in conversation with Olympic gold medallist Lady Mary Peters and Rhys McClenaghan who is competing in his first Olympic Games this summer. Each episode will give you the chance to listen-in on conversations with Northern Ireland’s incredible sports men and women on the topics of performance, mental health and life after sport. This podcast is a collaboration between The Mary Peters Trust and Coca Cola Thank You Fund and is a Best of Belfast production.

‘Through the Glass’ Reminiscence Project

C21 Theatre Company collaborated with care and nursing homes across Northern Ireland in this unique project which interacts with residents encouraging them to share stories from their past. This Arts Council NI funded project, along with the Public Health Agency and local councils, has turned a selection of these stories into theatrical films based around the themes of home, community, school days, work, and going out.
