A day for recognising the outstanding talent of writers in Northern Ireland on 23 March. The Arts Council NI along with the Royal Society of Literature have put together a schedule of activities and events which will inspire you to revisit and recommend your most-loved writers in Northern Ireland. Join award-winning writer Paul McVeigh, as the host for this special day.

The State of Us: Imagine Belfast Festival 2021

Belfast’s Festival of Ideas and Politics starts next week, running from 22 to 28 March, with a range of discussions focused on bringing a unique way to imagine the future of this great city. The annual festival offers an inspiring programme of performance, discussion and debate. The theme this year will be ‘The State of Us’, exploring pertinent topics such as the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Media in Northern Ireland, Climate Change, Arts and Human Rights, Women in Parliament, Black Lives Matter and many more.

Belfast wins bid for One Young World 2023

Second only to the Olympic Games in terms of the number of countries that take part, Belfast will host this internationally diverse summit in 2023. This event brings together world leaders, global businesses, media, celebrities and inspirational youth activists ‘working to accelerate social impact through effective and responsible leadership’. Read more about the event which will coincide with Belfast’s Year of Culture 2023. The official launch on 31 March will feature First Minister Arlene Foster, deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill along with Sir Bob Geldof and visionaries in social change and corporate responsibility.

Discuss ‘If All the World and Love Were Young’ with Stephen Sexton.

Belfast-based poet Stephen Sexton featured in #Transpoesie 2020 in Brussels. On 25 March Queen’s Writers Society will host Stephen Sexton for an ‘Ask the Author’ event, in which they will talk about his poetry, publishing and more. “His Forward Prize-winning collection 'If All the World and Love Were Young’ travels through the various levels of Super Mario World whilst delving into the effects of grieving and remembering those you love.” Register for the event here.
