Ulster Fry Breakfast on St. Patrick’s Day
On 17 March the Office of the Northern Ireland Executive in Brussels was delighted to once again host one of our favourite annual events, the Ulster Fry on St Patrick’s Day.
Over 100 guests from the EU institutions and member states, as well as regional and national contacts, were welcomed to our office to enjoy a taste of Northern Ireland. The hearty Ulster Fry was made up of ingredients from the finest Northern Irish producers, including pork and steak sausages along with black and white puddings from Moira-based Hannan Meats, and a selection of wheaten, soda and potato bread from the Olive Tree Bakery in Bangor.
Guests were welcomed by ONIEB Director, Aodhán Connolly, who took the opportunity to introduce the Brussels audience to Our Giant Ambition, designed to ignite a new era of transformation as we look towards Northern Ireland’s next 25 years. Guests then enjoyed a short video showcasing ‘Our Giant Ambition’ on innovation, inclusivity, sustainability and propelling areas where Northern Ireland has real strengths and expertise.
After clearing their plates, guests had a chance to network and left with gift bags sponsored by Invest Northern Ireland, including charming mugs from Belfast based studio and shop Born & Bred. The event was a great success and the ONIEB team thoroughly enjoyed sharing this delicious culinary tradition with our Brussels friends, thanks to FoodNI for sourcing the excellent products from Northern Ireland.
